Ashton Rots en Strand Hengelklub is 40 jaar gelede in 1968 gestig deur 5 vriende in die Ashton omgewing.
Elkeen het R1 in die hoed gegooi en die hengelaar met die swaarste sak vis eetbare was die wenner en sy prys geld was R5.
Hierdie tradisie van "swaarste sak eetbare vis" word tot vandag in die klub voortgesit.
Today, Ashton Angling club consist of approximately 50 active and social members from all over the Western Cape including Cape Town, Saldanha, Robertson, Ashton, Bonnievale, Worcester, Wellington, etc.
Ashton Angling club is classified as a "social angling club" affiliated to “Boland Coastal Angling Association” with a strong constitution, fishing competition rules and a code of conduct that ensures a well organised and functioning club. The club has 11 sponsored competitions from Hermanus mond to Preekstoel in Stilbaai and the league that runs from November to October the follow year.
AHK also participate in the “Boland Coastal Angling Association” league from October to April.
A number of social events are arranged for members during the year to ensure a good spirit exists in the club.
The club supports the development of the sport of rock and surf angling among the youth by hosting the annual Struisbaai 5 Spesie competition. All Ashton Angling members support and adhere to rules and regulations that govern the sea, beaches and its resources during competitions and social angling.
